Guild logoThe South African Guild of Objects Restorers & Conservators

The South African Guild of Objects Restorers & Conservators was established in 1997 to provide representation to its members and to promote the standing of professionally trained restorers/conservators in South Africa, as well as to facilitate the adherence to ethical practises within the industry. Currently, the Guild serves the interests of practitioners in metals conservation, ceramics conservation and paper conservation.

Guild members are signatories to the widely respected VeRes Code of Professional Ethics, which safeguards the objects, the public and the profession itself. Members are distinguished by their use of official Guild stationery, and are preferentially referred to by the Institute when restoration services are sought by members of the general public.

The S.A. Institute for Objects Conservation serves as administrator of the Guild and may be called upon to provide assistance or mediation to its members or clients of such members where appropriate.

To ensure a suitable period of introduction and establishment within the practice of conservation, prospective members may only be considered eligible after a certain minimum term of full-time practice, subsequent to completing the Institute’s Certificate Course (Introductory).

Membership of the Guild is maintained through a monthly fee of R 90,00. A reduced fee of R80,00 per month applies if settled via scheduled payment or stop order. For more information or application forms, please contact the Institute’s Programme Office by dialling 042 273 1567 or click here to send an email to the Guild.
