Conservation Materials

The BLUEPRINT Mail Order Service is a specialised, in-house service maintained under the auspices of the Institute. This supply service was inaugurated in 1994, and stands in support of established, trained conservation professionals or heritage institutions whom are engaged in the respective specialisms of Ceramics Conservation, Metals Conservation and/or Paper Conservation.

alt With the exception of Rennaisance Wax (Stock Code: U75) and Milliput (Stock Codes: U186-U190), purchase requests received from amateur restorers are usually declined. When orders are received from trained conservators or restorers, such orders are filled strictly based on the presumption that the purchasor is already suitably trained and skilled in the use and application of such materials and/or equipment. If the purchasor recognizes that he/she will need assistance, it is recommended that such prior technical knowledge and guidance on product use first be secured by participation in appropriate training opportunities, whether at the Institute or at equivalent, formal institutions.

The stock code of each item on the price list nominates it’s primary application: The prefix “C” denotes the specialism of Ceramics Conservation, the prefix “M” denotes the specialism of Metals Conservation while the prefix “P” denotes the specialism of Paper Conservation.

alt Kindly note that the Institute’s faculty staff resources stand in full commitment to it’s year-round training programme. The benefit of telephonic consultations in respect to restoration products is therefore strictly limited to persons who do in fact have formal training in the specialism directly related to their product purchase. No departure from this long-held policy can be supported, as it would be prejudicial to the interests of the profession and that of the objects which it serves.
